D-aspartic acid, another favourite, did not increase testosterone in resistance-trained men in a controlled trial, despite early hype from weaker studies [7]. Fenugreek shows more mixed results, with some positive trials, but the overall picture is inconsistent and comes from small studies.

So why does the market thrive? Because testosterone naturally fluctuates, because men over 40 feel real changes that the marketing conveniently attaches to a bottle, and because these products almost never face public placebo-controlled testing. A plausible mechanism, a receptive audience and normal hormonal variation are enough to sustain a huge industry on very little proof.
